Directory of Early Photographers - Studio Notes - Bankruptcy of A E Billows

(transcribed from the Leicester Chronicle, 6th October 1890)

FAILURE OF A PHOTOGRAPHER.

Re Albert Edward Billows of High-street, Oakham, photographer.

Debtor’s statement of affairs shows: Unsecure liabilities, £133 10s. 2d.; assets, £45; deficiency, £98 10s. 2d.

The debtor says: “The profits of my business have been too small to maintain me.” The Official Receiver says the receiving order was made upon the debtor’s own petition. He has been in business at Oakham for less than two years, and never had any capital. Before starting he was in a situation at Sheffield. The liabilities include about £64 trade debts and £69 10s. 2d. due to tradesmen and others at Oakham. The assets appear to be of very small value. There is some furniture in the house, but it is said to be on hire. There is no probability of any offer of composition.
