ELY, T H [?] Adamson records that Ely, the first Norfolk daguerreotype licensee, sought premises in Wisbech in 1844. His intention was to open a studio, but it is not clear whether the plan was actually carried out. EMERSON, Peter Henry Emerson (1856-1936) was not a studio photographer, but his historical importance makes it worth noting his association with the county. A champion of the naturalistic approach to photography, Emerson earned distinction with his photographs of East Anglian scenery and life. It was in Cambridge, in 1881, that he took up photography.
