WHITLOCK, Joseph

Adamson (1) notes that Whitlock was the first daguerreotype licensee for Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. He set up business in Birmingham, Leamington Spa and Coventry during 1843, and on 30th January 1844 he opened a studio in Mercers’ Row, Northampton. He stayed in Northampton until November 1844, and he returned to the same address for a further season from February to August 1845. Later that year he advertised his willingness to dispose of the Northamptonshire part of his licence. The unidentified buyer reopened the studio in 1846, while Whitlock continued his career in Birmingham, where (according to Heathcote) he died in 1857.
