His advertisement in CAP 1901 reads: ‘S Busby Cox, Westgate Studio, Peterborough. Cabinets – 10/- doz; circles – 12/6 doz. Carte de visites (sic) – 5/- doz; circles – 7/6 doz. Enlargements in Sepia, Black & White, Colours, &c. Outdoor Photography in all its Branches – Cricket, Tennis, Wedding, Football & other Groups by appointment.’ COX, William
His advertisement in MN 1861 reads: ‘W Cox, Artist and Photographer, 13 Bridge Street, Northampton, Has erected, for the better accommodation of his numerous patrons, Two Glass Studios, where first-class Portraits can be obtained in all weather, at prices from One Shilling to Ten Guineas. Copies taken of all kinds of portraits on the newest principle. All Portraits Coloured and Finished on the Premises. N.B. – Bad or Failed portraits of other Artists successfully Restored or exchanged.’ The accompanying illustration is a line drawing of a high-ceilinged studio interior. One wall is given over entirely to windows, with the light regulated by heavy traditional curtains. The ceiling, too, is made up of glass panels, with a system of blinds for managing the light. His advertisement in TNA 1863 reads: ‘Cartes de visite. Persons wishing to possess these Gems, will find W Cox’s Brilliant and full of Life, taken in one second. 6s for the Half-dozen; 10s for the Dozen.’ Return to Northamptonshire index
